Gaining an SLC is fairly simple if you are already a competent sailor. Basically, it is a suite of online bareboat charter knowledge courses and tests followed by a 1 day on-water assessment of your skills and knowledge. If the sailor feels they are already knowledgeable on the material, they can jump to the tests.

Once you start the process of completing all the items for your SLC, the NauticEd software automatically reports back to you what you need to complete to be fully issued the license. Simply sign-in to NauticEd and then visit the International Sailing license page/button. There, anything in red remains to be complete. Once everything is complete, the software will automatically issue the license that you can download in multiple languages.
The SLC online Exam is NOT the full requirement. It is just a stand-alone exam and is in addition to the requirement to pass the online courses. It is free to take and must be passed every 3 years to ensure the sailor has maintained critical knowledge. Most sailors will not pass the SLC exam without having taken the courses first.
